The Essence Is Whispering… Listen

I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to confuse the essence of life with the noise around it.

The essence is simple: the people we love, our health, our mental wellbeing, a safe home with food on the table and clean water, the moments of joy and gratitude, and the sense of fulfillment that comes from knowing you are where you need to be. When any of these are missing, life falls apart.

The noise is everything else. Trending topics on social media, job stress with unread emails piling up, endless notifications, worrying about what others think, material stuff, and all the distractions that keep our attention busy but rarely add anything meaningful. They feel urgent in the moment, but if they disappeared tomorrow, our lives would keep moving.

The difference is clear, right? Yet, the challenge is that the noise shouts louder than the essence. It pulls us in, keeps us scrolling, working late, or worrying about things that don’t matter in the long run. The essence, on the other hand, whispers. It asks for presence at dinner with family, for a walk outside, for rest, for laughter.

I try to remind myself that a fulfilled life isn’t about keeping up with everything, it’s about showing up for the few things that truly matter. When I keep my eyes on the essence, the noise fades into the background, exactly where it belongs.
