The Secret of the Garden

“The secret is not to chase after butterflies; it’s to take care of the garden so that they come to you.”

– Mario Quintana.

I love this metaphor because it whispers truth in so many corners of life.

•In moments of personal growth, I’ve learned that happiness isn’t something to hunt down. It comes when I care for myself, watering good habits, resting when I need it, planting small seeds of kindness. A cared-for inner garden invites joy on its own.

•In love and relationships, chasing never works. The right people arrive when we live authentically, when we dare to be ourselves.

•In my career, I’ve noticed that recognition doesn’t bloom by sprinting after titles. It grows slowly through integrity, through showing up consistently, through doing the work. A strong garden becomes magnetic to recognition and opportunity.

•As for community and leadership, It’s never about chasing followers. It’s about planting trust, cultivating values, building a space where others feel safe to grow. A healthy garden attracts people naturally.

•And in creativity, inspiration never comes when we run after it. It shows up when we prepare the ground through openness and patience. The butterflies of ideas arrive when the soil is ready.

So maybe Quintana was right all along: life is not always about running after what we want, it’s about nurturing our life for those things to arrive. Care for your garden and the butterflies will know where to find you.
