Freedom Begins When You Decide
Sometimes I wonder what I can cook tonight, or which restaurant we want to go to. Is that even a decision my ancestors worried about? Probably not, they ate whatever they had.

Sometimes I wonder what place in the world I will choose to live after retirement. Did people even have that kind of choice a few generations ago? Certainly not.

We live in an age of abundance, endless opportunities, experiences, careers, and passions waiting for us to explore. Yet, this abundance comes with a hidden weight: to choose one thing means excluding many others. And that’s where many of us get stuck, double-guessing, hesitating, wondering if there’s a “perfect” choice. There is not a perfect choice but there are some choices that are more aligned to our core, to those things we can’t live without.

In a world where everything is possible, the real challenge isn’t doing it all but deciding what truly matters. Look at the three circles in the graph above: the outer one filled with all we could do, the middle one with what we really want to do, and at the very center, a small, powerful core what we can’t live without doing. This innermost circle is where meaning lives. These are the intentional choices that give us energy, joy, and a sense of purpose. When we consciously prioritize these few, essential things and let go of the rest, we free ourselves from the noise of endless possibilities and step into a life that feels lighter, clearer, and deeply our own.

Happiness doesn’t come from perfect choices, but from fully living the ones we make. When we stop chasing the “best” option and start making peace with “good enough,” something amazing happens: we create space for joy, presence, and inner calm.

Next time you catch yourself stuck in the “what ifs,” pause, decide, and move forward. Freedom and happiness often begin with choosing.
