Growth Mindset, the power of “yet”
The word “yet” is one of my preferred words. When properly used, normally at the end of a statement, it opens an ocean of possibilities.
Observe the difference with this examples:
“I don’t know how to play the piano.”
Say instead
“I don’t play the piano yet”
“I’m not a great tennis player”
Say instead
“I’m not a great tennis player yet”
“I’m not good socializing”
Say instead
“I haven’t learned how to socialize yet”
See the difference? It’s just one word that changes the whole meaning of the sentence. That is the difference between what is called Fixed Mindset and Growth Mindset.
People with fixed mindset think they are good or bad at certain things and they feel lost under adverse results. Many times, they simply avoid things to avoid failure. By the contrary, people with GROWTH MINDSET don’t talk about failure and they prefer to say “not yet” which is a way to express they are approaching, they are on their way to succeed. While fix mindset recognizes only results, growth mindset recognizes effort and evolution.
Keep trying, keep growing. Use the power of “yet”.
