Personal Improvement
It is normal to evaluate our own success by looking to others. It is horrible to say but it is in our human nature to feel bad when someone shines more than we do and to feel good when we perceive ourselves better than others.
Comparing to others can be very frustrating because we will always find someone that is better than us, is smarter than us, is more successful, or is more attractive. In fact, this is somehow devastating for teenagers who spend a lot of time in social media comparing their own “behind the scenes” version versus the “on stage highlight” image of others.
The proposal is to stop using others to evaluate where we stand, and instead focus on being the best possible version of ourselves.
Run your own race and concentrate your energy in improving every day.
