Be Present
Paying more attention to the present moment, including our thoughts and feelings, our body and the world around us can positively change the way we feel about life and how we approach challenges. It is very simple and very hard at the same time to really know what is going on inside and outside ourselves moment by moment.
Normally, the concept of being present or Mindfulness is associated with the good things happening around us, the joy, a beautiful sunrise, shared moments with loved people, celebrations, etc.
However, Mindfulness is about sensitizing us to our life and should include both, the good and the bad. Observing and fully leaning into more uncomfortable experiences is a way to develop higher compassion, empathy or understanding, a way to open our heart and feel that we grow as human beings and feel better connected with other people in pain.
“Try to learn to breathe deeply, really to taste food when you eat, and when you sleep, really to sleep. Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell. And when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough.” Ernest Hemingway
