Two Questions
Think about these two very simple questions. In both cases choose answer a or b.
First question: What do you prefer?
a) that people love you for who you are and how you are,
b) that people love you for what you do, for your work and your titles, for your achievements and your trophies?
Second question: how do you love yourself?
a) because of who you are and how you are?
b) for your achievements, for your work, your goals and the recognitions you receive?
If, as most people, you chose a) to the first question and b) to the second, you have a lot to think about.
Wishing that people love us for who you are and the way you are makes more sense and sounds much better, more human, warmer and more authentic. On the other hand, if they loved us for our titles and achievements, it would sound transactional. What would happen then the day we no longer have those titles or are no longer able to achieve the same results?
However, when it comes to self-evaluation, we normally overvalue our goals, achievements and titles over our way of being, our generosity, kindness, peace, friendship, empathy that is what really matters.
